He attained the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society. For instance, he was awarded two Associated Press Awards for Best Weathercast. Schwenneker has also managed to win several awards ever since he started his career as a meteorologist. Schwenneker is also involved with public service including Police, Fire, and EMS dispatching and national certification as a 911 call-taker/dispatcher. The name has stuck ever since and whenever there was big weather in the forecast, “Big Weather” was on TV. Schwenneker was nicknamed “Big Weather” by a colleague for his 6’5″ and one of the taller meteorologists on TV and was always on TV during big weather events from tornadoes to flooding warnings. His career started over 20 years ago after landing a job at KBIM-TV in Roswell, New Mexico serving as a lead forecaster. ![]() Prior to that, he previously worked for WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, and WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pennsylvania where he served as a meteorologist. For instance, he previously worked for WBBM-TV in Chicago where he served as a meteorologist.
